3 Best NCAA Mascots
3. Mike the Tiger (LSU):
LSU first adopted their nickname of the tigers in 1896, and it was a reference to the Louisiana troops of Robert E. Lee's army during the civil war, who were known as the tigers for their bravery. LSU has two different tigers, one real tiger and a fan friendly costume tiger that appears on the field. On home games, the real tiger is parked behind the visitors locker room. According to folklore, the LSU team scores a touchdown for every time that the tiger roars before a game. There have been 6 tigers, four of them have been Bengal tigers and two of them have been mixed breeds. The costume tiger appears on the field during both home and away games. He gained most of his fame when he appeared in a ESPN commercial with LSU alum Shaquille O'Neal.
